I'm having trouble importing Retrosheet and Gameday Data into MySQL. Could someone just tell me how to do this so I can see what I'm doing wrong?
It's a long process - unfortunately I'm not home right now so I can't even look at my database for a point of reference.
I'd advise checking out the RetroSQL mailing group - there's a lot of good info there about setting up a play-by-play database. I think you have to be a member to search the archives, though. One of the things on my to-do list is to take that material and write it up as a comprehensive tutorial.
I'll try to look over this and see if I can figure it out. If not I will just wait for your tutorial
I am going to make available the complete RetroSheet data as a single .sql download. We are just finsihing up the testing and will have it so only 1-2 people can download it at a time. I could see a rush once it is up. Since I get the hosting basically for free, I don't want to abuse it. It is at 4.5 GBs. Takes a while to download and extract, but works great. I should have it ready within the week.
Is that database available for download yet or are you still working on it? If you are done I would be very interested in downloading it from you.
It will be available, but the person hosting doesn't want to make it available yet because of the size of it. He hasn't had a chance to limit the number of downloads, hopefully within the week. Check back in a few days.
I just found out it will not be available to be download for a bit. I have it on my computer and I am thinking of finding another way to make it available. If someone has a FTP site I would not have a problem moving it over to it. Let me know the information and I will while I am at work. I am also going to see if I can fit it on a DVD, really close in size. Contact me at wydiyd at hotmail dot com.
